The Ruet

The Ruet:
The Ruet, the first official moonsighting mobile application utility in Pakistan, developed with an aim to be used to view the various moon related details through scientific ways and to facilitate the people at large to sight the moon on religious and other occasions. The App is developed and published by COMSATS University Islamabad (“CUI”) for and on behalf of Ministry of Science and Technology.
Main Features
The Ruet is:
• a utility application to pinpoint the exact location of the moon.
• a mobile application tool that enables the user to see the moon and sun with the naked eye in favorable metrological conditions by pointing the mobile phone at the sky in the desired direction.
• A mobile application that provides the facility to observe the new moon’s statistical information under the visibility criterion defined by Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD).
• working based on the visibility criterions defined on various factors like date of moonsighting, conjunction date and time, age of the moon, time of moonset, altitude at sunset, elongation, and luminosity calculated using latitude, longitude and elevation of official data of the eight (8) selected observatories of Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD).
• is covering almost all the terrestrial territory of Pakistan for moonsighting through eight different sights of Pakistan namely, Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Jiwani, Gilgit, and Muzaffarabad.
